Hey, guys. Whenever we meet, you know Mamy always comes bearing gifts! This time, we’re going domestic.

As we all know, Thailand has a lot of tourist attractions, whether it’s mountains, seas, or waterfalls. It also has uniquely beautiful arts and culture waiting for more people to explore. So, Mamy has brought you guys the list of the top ten most popular provinces attracting Thais and foreigners alike. In other words, these are must-visit destinations. So let’s get started!

No. 1 Bangkok

It’s impossible not to mention our capital city, Bangkok. Bangkok is the political, economic, and cultural center, where foreigners come to try out the ways of life, culture, food, and other various activities. There are also numerous tourist attractions, beautiful religious sites, all of which reinforce its province slogan, “Bangkok, glorious as if created by angels, the administration center, beautiful temples, glittering palaces, the capital of Thailand.”

That said, Bangkok is a dream destination that tourists around the world want to visit at least once in their lifetime.

 

No. 2 Phuket

There’s no way that tourists–foreign or native alike–never hear about Phuket. Phuket is one of the destinations that people will always choose to visit at least once.

Phuket is a huge island of the Andaman Sea and a province located in the southern part of Thailand. There are various types of tourist attractions for every possible way of tourism, ranging from the sea, beaches, small islands around the province, sites of extreme sports, unique traditional architecture, and a wide variety of restaurants–as guaranteed by UNESCO, Phuket is definitely “The Land of Food.” Plus, visitors can travel there any time of the year.

 

No. 3 Surat Thani

Next, Mamy will bring you guys to the Gulf of Thailand, which is Surat Thani Province.

Surat Thani is another province with a wide range of tourist attractions like forests, mountains, and island groups. A very famous destination in Surat Thani is Ratchaprapa Dam, also known as Chiew Larn Dam. As for the islands, the popular islands for Thai and foreign tourists include Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. But one of the world-renowned islands around here is Koh Phangan, which is a location for the famous Full Moon Party which attracts  a huge number of international tourists throughout the year.

No. 4 Chiang Mai

When it comes to winter, Chiang Mai is always on top of the list. Chiang Mai is the northern Thailand’s economic center. There’s unique culture in the province; plus, visitors can travel there any time of the year. There are temples as well as bountiful nature waiting for people to visit. Also, there are areas of entertainment venues for people to come and relax. Or, they can rejoice in some romantic vacation by climbing to the top of the mountain for stargazing.

Presently, Chiang Mai is a destination for so called hipsters, for there are lots of distinctive cafes as well as handicraft shops for people to go visit, relax, have some fun, and take some nice photos to post on their social network accounts.

 

No. 5 Nan

Nan is located at the northern part of Thailand. It’s the place of beautiful arts as well as the combination of Burma, Lanna, and Lanchang civilizations.

The province is very popular among hipsters who prefer some laid-back lifestyle. The nice weather makes it the right place to ride some bicycle while enjoying the breathtaking mountainous scenery. Also, don’t forget to check out the renowned wall paintings called “Grandpa and Grandma Man whispering love.”

Pua District is also another recommended spot visitors can go get some fresh air or take cool pictures to post on their social network accounts.

 

No. 6 Kanchanaburi

The province is located at the western part of Thailand and not too far away from Bangkok. There are a number of tourist destinations in bountiful nature, which make it perfect for some relaxing getaway. Furthermore, there are many historic sites such as “The Bridge on the River Kwai” or “The Death Railway,” which are the locations involved with World War II.

Apart from historic sites, there are also a variety of activities to do in beautiful natural sites such as rafting in River Kwai or swimming in Sai Yok Waterfall. Another uniquely attractive destination is Sangklaburi, which is the location of Mon Bridge, the longest wooden bridge in Thailand.

 

No. 7  Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Another province Mamy will take you guys to is Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, also known as Ayutthaya. There are also lots of fascinating destinations in the province, making it very popular among Thais and foreigners alike. It’s also easy to arrange a one-day trip since it’s not too far from Bangkok.

Visitors can ride their bicycles while exploring the ancient ruins, gain knowledge when visiting these historic sites, and can also visit the temples to pay respect, increasing fortune and luck. It’s up for them to choose.

 

No. 8 Sukhothai

Sukhothai, another former capital city, is one of the must-visit destinations. Sukhothai has shared a crucial part in our history since the past until today.

The province is unique for its historic and cultural tourism for both Thais and foreigners–for Thais, it’s like travelling back in time, whereas it’s quite educationally helpful for foreigners to understand Thai history better. In addition, there are also natural sites, like Ramkhamhaeng National Park. That said, this province is amazingly attractive.

 

No. 9 Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son is located in the northern part of Thailand. The province is lightly populated. But, it’s distinctive in various aspects, especially in terms of its landscape, cultural and ethnic diversity.

The province is nicknamed “The Land of Three-Seasoned Fog” after the fact that the atmosphere can be foggy in every season. Anyone who travels there will get to see the farmlands, sea fog, and cool mountains.

One of the most famous destinations includes Pai District or Pang Oung, which is one of the royal projects of King Bhumibol, who wanted to recover the forest and its ecosystem. Pang Oung has become a very stunning and romantic tourist destination.

 

No. 10 Buriram

The last place highly recommended by Mamy is Buriram–a province located in the northeastern region of Thailand, also known as “The Land of Long Lasting Castles.” More often than not, the province is overlooked, yet Mamy wants to tell you guys that this province has a wide range of tourist attractions in Thailand.

Buriram has also been heavily promoted as a province of sports. There are famous football clubs like Buriram United or football fields like Thunder Castle Stadium, whose design was inspired from Phanom Rung Castle. The stadium has the capacity of 24,400 seats.

Another world-renowned destination is Phanom Rung Castle, which is currently nominated as a world heritage. The caste is one of Thailand’s most famous Khom stone castles.
