Top 5 Hiking Trails in Phuket to Add to Your Bucket List

Planning a beach vacation in Phuket? Chances are that you chose the island as your holiday destination because of its lovely beaches. We can’t blame you for that! Indeed, Phuket is home to some of the best beaches in Asia, if not the entire globe. However, if you’re also in for other activities and would love to grab the opportunity to explore the place even further, we suggest checking out Phuket’s top hiking trails. A trip to the south west of Thailand will show you an abundance of landscapes rich in hilly terrains, breathtaking waterfalls, serene rainforest, and of course, stunning beaches.

Whether you want to spend your holiday enjoying Phuket’s fine beaches or climbing a cliff, make sure that you check out at least one hiking trail for a trek to remember!

1. Kathu Waterfall

If you want to enjoy the views of the entire region, then the hike to the magnificent Kathu Waterfall is something you should consider. The hike starts with a lush sea of green forestry until you reach the breathtaking waterfall. Then, you can continue to the peak and see the marvelous scenery from the top.

The waterfall and rainforest are best explored during a rainy day, so make sure you pack a reliable raincoat and a pair of non-slip shoes!

2. Khao Sok National Park

What else would you expect from a national park if not for gorgeous scenery and a hiking experience? It has everything you could ask for to see and experience in a hike: jungle trails, stunning waterfalls, serene lakes, unique limestone peaks, and an abundance of wildlife. Indeed, it is a paradise for nature lovers. We suggest spending your entire day exploring this trail!

3. Bang Pae Waterfall

If you’re not much of an adventurer and only looking for a fairly easy hike, then this trail could very well be for you. You can do this on your own without a guide. Just go to the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, then follow the signs that lead to the waterfall. You’ll be welcomed by its small yet refreshing pool that’s filled with water from the gorgeous falls. Make sure that you pack a picnic so that you can feed your belly after dipping in the beautiful cool waters while admiring the beauty of the waterfall.

4. Banana Rock Beach

Another easy hike that makes it more of a walking trail than a hike, the Banana Rock Beach trail is a downhill trail between Nai Thon and Bang Tao beaches. You’ll have to look for a small wooden sign that will direct you to Banana Rock beach. Although the hike is rather easy, it’s not that easy to find this place, which is why this beach has long been regarded as a hidden gem!

5. Samet Nangshe Viewpoint

This viewpoint is not within Phuket itself, but it isn’t too far. You’ll have to take a 30-minute drive to reach the starting point, but the views are all worth the extra effort! This spot in Phang Nga gives a spectacular view of Phang Nga Bay’s limestone islets. Feast your eyes staring at the lush mangroves that lead to the blue bay. The hike is short but challenging, but if you go before the sun rises, the views will make you forget about the hard work.
