How to Get to Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park – Our Guide

While there are plenty of chances to enjoy the sunny sky and the clear blue sea in Thailand, you might still long for that fix of paradise. There’s just something at the back of your head wanting to discover something truly pristine, both in beauty and nature. Well, you’re longing for a visit to Ko Ang Thong National Park!

While the name might not spark familiarity in everyone’s mind, the park was the inspiration for the film “The Beach.” An archipelago of 42 islands and filled with nothing more than incredible mountains, pristine beaches, and vivid sea, the national park is the hallmark of paradise.

Want to visit this beautiful park? Here’s what you need to know:

Getting from your Hotel to the Docks

If you’ve opted for a tour, you’ll be picked up in front of your hotel. The ride you’ll receive can range from a motorbike or a taxi to a pick-up truck. Whatever your ride will be, you’ll be dropped at the main pier where you can enjoy some breakfast and purchase some snacks in the nearby convenience store.

Once everyone’s ready, you’ll make your way to your boat. Depending on the season, you’ll either get to enjoy the boat all to yourselves or find it packed.

If you want to know how many people you’re going to end up sharing the boat with, you can always contact the tour operator on how busy they are. In high seasons, they’ll most likely be packed to the brim.

Getting to Ang Thong

There are two ways you can get to Ang Thong: wooden boats or speedboats.

If you’re in no rush and want to enjoy the sea to its fullest extent, or because you can’t handle too much motion or you’ll get sick, you can opt to take wooden boat tours. They’re much slower, taking approximately one to two hours to reach the destination. However, you get a much smoother ride, given that the sea is calm, and you get to enjoy the pretty view better.

If you’re in a rush and want to get to the park as soon as possible, you can opt for speedboats. They’ll get you there in under an hour tops.

That said, we highly recommend that you opt for speedboats. Not only are they luxurious, but getting to Ang Thong faster means more time to spend in a beautiful area.

Getting Back from the Ang Thong

The way you’re going back to Ang Thong will pretty much be the same as going to the area. With the speedboat, the trip will take you approximately one hour. Once you arrive at the pier, a vehicle will pick you up, which will take you to your accommodations where you can call it a day.

Conclusion

Whether you opt for a speedboat or a wooden boat, none of that will change the remarkable experience you’ll have when you visit Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park. If you’ve never seen the place before, hit up some images on the internet. All the pictures might make you believe that they’re all just edited to blow them out of proportion. Really though, that’s exactly what the park looks like—a brilliantly beautiful park filled with natural wonders waiting for you to discover it. The best part about this is that it is even better in person!
